Campaign in Memory of Joanne Scee Doubles Fundraising Goal

My mother, Joanne Scee, passed away on May 24, 2021.  She was always helping people find their way. She spent her life caring for others. My mom showed up for her friends and family when they were in need, never hesitating to put them first. It defined her.

I started the Joanne Scee Memorial Fund as a way to honor my mom and to fuel the mission of PowerUP.

In her last week, she wanted to catch up on everything going on in my life: family, business, and PowerUP. She didn’t realize how much we had grown and how our program positively impacts kids. She lit up as I told her more and said, “you know, you get that from me!”

When my mom told me she wanted to change her will to give money to PowerUP, I said no – she had already contributed enough by raising me. Instead, I told her I’d do something with the money she left me for PowerUP.

We targeted a goal of $10,000, ended up raising over $20,000, and with matching contributions it was doubled to $40,000.

I am honored and amazed by the generosity of my friends and family. It costs $500 to support one child for a year at PowerUP – the funds we have raised enable us to mentor 41 kids – My mom would be more than proud of this accomplishment. Thank you.
